- HYBRIDS -
~
Hybrids are the rarest of all supernatural creatures- an unlikely product of a union between a werewolf and a fertile vampire. Not much is known on the exact conditions that a hybrid may be conceived, but two cases between a traditional male werewolf and a turned female vampire have been known to produce a hybrid child.
Because hybrids are the only true immortals (they cannot die from a mortal wound), because they are so physically powerful and because their blood has such potent healing powers, a hybrid will always be in high demand. Packs, clans, and individuals have all been known to covet these powerful beings for a bevy of reasons and there have been a few documented cases of hybrids being kidnapped or worse in order for these individuals to achieve possession of them. Because of this, hybrids will often conceal their true species under the guise of being either a vampire or a werewolf. Their scents can vary depending upon what species they spend the most time with, and so it is nearly impossible to detect their true nature by scent alone.
Although hybrids are extremely rare, there has been one recent incident in which a group of individuals figured out a way to turn humans and werewolves into hybrids by means of science and magic. Due to the nature of this particular event, the individuals in question were either exterminated or imprisoned, their work scattered to the winds. It would be nearly impossible to create a turned hybrid without an individual rediscovering the means in which these experiments achieved success. It would take a great amount of money, resources, and meticulous planning to re-enact this successful experimentation, and even then it is not assured that the test subject will survive the transition.
If one were to successfully make a hybrid from a human, werewolf, or a vampire, they would find that the finished product is not exactly the replication of a true-born hybrid.
Although immortal, much like a vampire, they can be killed. A werewolf from an older bloodline of werewolves are almost assured to die during the transition due to genetic incompatibility with the hybrid ‘virus.’
Both turned and born hybrids have the best of both the werewolf and vampire species. They have the ability to use and receive a werewolf’s venom (see modern werewolf lore) and they possess the superior strength and senses of a werewolf. A hybrid also has a vampire’s remarkable speed, allure, and ability to compel. They can survive off of blood or food, though a healthy combination of both will assure that the hybrid maintains their highest potential of all skills and abilities. Hybrids can go into the sunlight without risk of being burned, they can also shift into their wolf form at will.
Yes, it is easy to see why being a hybrid is such a blessing and a curse at the same time. Nature never intended for such an apex predator to exist, and so it is by magic that this loophole was accidentally created. A hybrid is superior to both werewolves and vampires and although coveted highly for their fighting ability and healing properties, hybrids are also prone to being envied and shunned for their differences.
Along with a tendency to not quite fit in with the rest of the world, hybrids can also be prone to fertility issues, though not always. The chances that they can conceive a child are likely, but the possibility of a successful and full-term pregnancy is less likely than the chances afforded to mortals such as werewolves, witches, and humans. That is to say, a hybrid can get pregnant just like any other mortal race, but the chances of miscarriage are high, which makes the chances of a hybrid child being born from a hybrid union even rarer.
Strengths
- Like vampires are incredibly fast and strong; their power increases with age
- Hybrids are immortal. Born hybrids can recover from fatal wounds if given the chance to heal
- Like a vampire, a hybrid is extremely attractive and uses its attributes to hunt humans
- Hybrids have heightened senses, beyond human comprehension
- Hybrids can shift into their wolf form at will and without pain
- In both human and wolf form, a hybrid is stronger than humans and equivalent aged vampires
- Hybrid blood can be used to cure a vampire of a werewolf bite and also speed up a werewolf's healing rate
- Like vampires, hybrids can use compulsion to control the mind of a human
Weaknesses
- Hybrids are incredibly rare and highly coveted. Therefore it can prove to be a risk to let others know of their true nature
- Many hybrids experience issues or difficulties reproducing
- Turned hybrids are immortal, but can otherwise be killed permanently (see vampire lore)
- Born hybrids can always regenerate if given the chance. Since death will not keep a hybrid from rising again, 'creative' measures could be taken to ensure a hybrid remains incapacitated. In short, a hybrid could face a fate worse than death
Methods to kill a hybrid
- As mentioned before, born hybrids cannot be 'killed' but can be incapacitated. The ability to heal is always there, but the hybrid will remain 'lifeless' until given the chance to heal once more. A turned hybrid however can succumb to death much like a vampire.
