A GUIDE FOR BEGINNERS
Hi there! Welcome to Mactire Falls. This guide is here to help anyone who is new to forum RPGs and how they work. If this applies to you, then hopefully this will answer any questions you may have. If not, feel free to PM myself or any member of staff and we'll be more than happy to help you out. It would also mean that I would be able to update this guide.
Now, first off...
1. Make sure you read the rules. Tiresome, I know, but it will really benefit you in the long run. You can find the rules here. you will also want to read the Lore Book and History to understand what character you want to make and how they will fit in with the forum's plot and past. I know it is a lot of reading, but in order to fit in seamlessly, you want to make sure you know all this stuff.
2. Now you will want to create your character. If you have a face claim (an image of someone to use as your character), make sure you check the Face Claims page here to make sure no one is already using that person. If they're not, claim away! Your face will be added to the list by a staff member.
3. Now you've made your character, awesome! You're going to want to set up your mini profile. Go to your profile and select edit profile. Here you can select/upload your avatar. 150x150 or 150x200 works well.
4. Uploading pictures. If you've found an image online that you want to use and that fits the image dimensions, then great! Copy that URL. If you've edited or created an image yourself and need to upload it, I have a simple and free way of doing that. Go to www.cubeupload.com (you will need to make an account) and upload your image. There are other image sharing sites out there and feel free to use whatever you wish, but I find this one to be quick and easy to use. Once that's done, that the code from the second box (IMG code for Forums & Message Boards). this is the link you'll use for your images, aside from the (img)(/img) at the beginning and the end.
5. Adding your images to your profile. Go to Profile > Edit Profile. Here you can upload your avatar. Either upload it directly from your computer or paste your code in. Make sure you save changes.
Now, go to the personal tab. Scroll down and you should see this:
Fill in the information based on your character. This information will appear beside each of your posts.
DOB: Date of Birth
Age: Your character’s real age
Orientation: Your character’s sexual orientation
Status: Relationship Status
Alias: an overall name for you as a player, so we know which characters belong to who.
6. Once you have made your character and it has been accepted by a member of staff, you are free to begin posting. Once you become familiar with what you are doing, it would be ideal to create a plotter and a tracker for your character.
