:: AGE :: 26 (Born in 1991)
:: GENDER :: Male
:: FAMILY ::
-Jasper Buchanan: Father (alive)
- Fiona Buchanan: Mother (alive)
- Blaire Buchanan: Sister (alive)
:: POWERS ::
Like all magic wielders, Felix has access to the basic level of witchcraft, allowing him to do simple tasks. What Felix specialises in however, is illusion and alteration.
Illusion:
Felix prides himself on his ability to warp reality, bending it to his mind’s desire, irrespective of those around him. He takes pride and pleasure in hiding items in plain sight, as well as creating images for others to see. While his manifestations are not physically real, and therefore cannot cause physical harm, if his target believed that they were being attacked by Felix’s creation, they would undergo something similar to a psychotic episode.
Additionally, Felix even has the ability to render himself invisible for a short amount of time, through the use of runes. Using runes, Felix can do many things that creates an illusion for himself or others. Where possible, Felix likes to experiment with new ideas, but otherwise is not too ambitious about creating his own spells.
Alteration:
Similar to illusion, Felix’s abilities in alteration allows him to manipulate the physical world, including sound. Felix can intensify or stifle sounds within a contained area. He can ward himself from particular types of spells or elements. He can also use runes to allow water breathing, though of course, he has to be careful that the run is securely protected while doing so.
Alteration gives Felix a devastating advantage in most fights, so long as he is prepared. To avoid straining his magic, Felix would cover his body in alteration runes, but can cast warding spells on the spot if needed. If caught off guard, Felix would need to be careful and prioritise his stance. Casting too many alteration spells would leave Felix very weak in a short amount of time.
:: YEAR/OCCUPATION:: Teith Witch
:: APPEARANCE ::
Felix is not a tall or broad man. In fact, he is rather slim and stands just short of 1.7 meters in height. Additionally, Felix has a particularly youthful face and overall appears far more naïve and feeble than he would like. Despite that though, Felix walks with an air of confidence in his stride.
Since adolescence, Felix knew he was never going to be a big man. His father before him was lean, but much fitter. Where Felix has a smooth, slim, but fleshy body, his father was encased in hard-cord muscle. Regardless, Felix was never really self-conscious about his body.
As Felix matured, he began to create his own style, to best accentuate his assets. Even though it meant shaving every day, Felix always appears well groomed; to the point where Felix would never be seen with stubble upon his cheek. He also chose to dress in semi-formal attire for the most part, but rather enjoyed wearing suits. His slim figure looked flattering in any style suit, provided it was tailored to him. Formalwear also gave him the sense that he was more mature and sophisticated, which he enjoyed. Otherwise, at his most casual, Felix would at times be spotted in a slim fit set of chinos, and a checked dress shirt.
As for his dark, chocolate brown hair, Felix keeps it rather short but styled neatly. In the past 2 years, Felix has also taken to putting highlights through his hair, giving the illusion that his hair colour is closer to a dirty blonde than brown, which would be plausible if not for his thick, dark eyebrows. Beneath those brows sit rich, brown eyes, framed by notably long, dark lashes. Felix also inherited his mother’s full lips, but his father’s clear, defined jaw line.
Overall, Felix believes himself to be quite attractive, particularly with his disarming, boyish smile.
:: PERSONALITY ::
Felix is relatively easy to get along with, due to his charismatic way with making conversation, as well as his contagious smile and humour. Felix enjoys the humour of life and prefers to revel in it, as he is well aware of the sadness and horror that the world can bring. Irony is a particular fancy of Felix’s. Because of it, Felix learned how to perform a small repertoire of ‘sleight of hand’ magic tricks, which he will perform on the side for extra money. Felix has enough pride to do the well-known tricks legitimately.
However, while Felix is approachable and rather likable, even he would admit that he is not to be trusted. Felix enjoys life enough that he is self-preserving. He is not particularly brave if he is caught unaware or disarmed and will accept nearly any bargain or deal that best suits himself. Furthermore, if given a difficult decision, Felix will always pick the option that will benefit him most, even if it means selling out others. It all depends on how much it would cost him to do.
Alternatively, Felix is not decidedly a bad person. He does not take pleasure in disappointing people. If it bodes well for him, Felix enjoys being beneficial and playing a hand in helping others. It certainly helps with his ego. So as to avoid being faced with choosing himself over others, Felix tries to keep life as simple as possible. While he enjoys learning about other peoples’ drama, he will do his best to stay out of it, unless his participation either benefits him or he can see a harmless way to stir the pot for his own entertainment.
It is also worth noting that Felix is incredibly confident in himself as a person, homosexual and a warlock. He has armoured himself with the attributes that best describe him and therefore, does not fall victim to hate or snide remarks.
What often goes unnoticed, is Felix’s fear to form a strong, serious attachment to others. He enjoys the company of others, but due to his desire to serve himself over others, he does not want his attachment to someone else to be his weakness. Moreover, Felix will surround himself with enjoyable people, but would not choose to grow close to anyone that may make him consider their wellbeing as much as or more than his own. The only exception to this, is his loyalty to the pack. Felix understands that it is in his best interest to do whatever Alistair asks of him and to do so without complaint. He also knows that if he were to double-cross the pack, that life would not be worth living.
:: HISTORY ::
Felix was brought up in a very carefree, hippy sort of household. His mother was a witch and his father a mere mortal fascinated by the idea of magic. Jasper and Fiona had been ecstatic when Felix was born. Fiona had claimed to feel his magic during her pregnancy. While Felix knew that might have been true, he also felt that the heavy use of marijuana and mushrooms during the pregnancy might have given that impression as well.
While Fiona was a competent witch, she let herself go in her 30s, not long after Felix was born. She found comfort in drugs and alcohol and became lazy with her craft. Jasper -as good as his intentions were- enabled Fiona, thinking that her trances were visions of magical importance.
It was just as well Felix was motivated and curious. He learned what little his mother could teach him and thirsted for more. At the age of 10, Felix saw a ‘Penn and Teller’ magic show on the television and became enraptured in the idea of illusions. It astounded him at such a young age to learn that the sort of magic he was watching was simply a trick of the eye or the mind, not actual, physical magic. Felix loved that and begged for a magic kit for his birthday. Jasper, did not think twice about gifting his son with the magic set. Felix spent hours with his magic set and a plain pack of cards. He watched as many magic videos as he could find and bought books with his pocket money that taught him ‘sleight of hand’.
With practice, Felix became quite good at his magic. At the young age of 14, Felix was performing street magic for money. In his spare time, after his family allowed him to get a laptop, Felix trawled the internet for real illusion magic. Sleight of hand was a passion of his, but he also wanted to learn real spells. It took some time and a lot of research, but after some hints from his mother, Felix began finding leads towards other magic users who could help him with his craft.
By the age of 17, Felix was being tutored in secret by a young mythology professor. It was at around that age that Felix realised he was attracted to men. He’d had a hunch for a few years, but only really accepted it once he took a fancy towards his tutor, Ryland. Ryland was a witch as well and favoured illusion and alteration. Felix learned a lot from Ryland. Ryland was also Felix’s first lover. It became very clear very quickly that Felix was incredibly proficient at his craft. Before long, he had learned all that Ryland could teach him, but the handsome professor pointed Felix in the direction of more witches who could help him. While it had only lasted a few months, Felix had enjoyed his relationship with Ryland. In that time he had learned to not only accept his sexuality, but embrace it.
It was just a shame that his family were not as accepting. Considering everything his family believed in and were open to, Felix had legitimately not expected his family to be homophobic. He was given an ultimatum; either he give up his foul ‘fetish’, or he leave the household.
Felix left with his bags that evening.
From that point on, Felix travelled to all the places Ryland suggested, using the money he made from street magic to pay for his living costs. It was a rough but simple way of life and Felix found himself enjoying the challenge nonetheless. By the time the young man reached his 24th year, Felix had settled into a hotel in California. He had visited all the witches Ryland had suggested for him and had long since found a confidence in his own ability, where he did not feel the need to be instructed any longer. His understanding of illusion and alteration was thorough and Felix found himself testing new ideas where possible. Felix still performed street magic, but began to slip some tricks into his repertoire that did require a bit of magical influence. He was becoming bold with his abilities and did not think anyone would notice if he masked some real magic as sleight of hand.
One evening in LA, late 2016, while Felix was performing his street magic, he was abducted by rough handed men. It had been the single most terrifying moment of his life. Felix was an exceptional illusionist, but having been caught off guard, he had not been in a position to defend himself. It was then, that Felix realised his weakness. He had created a false sense of security for himself, where he thought he would be safe from any harm, as his opponents would never be able to get close enough to hurt him. Oh how wrong he had been. Maybe if Felix was a little less sure of himself, he would have noticed that he was being watched, but there was little point in questioning ‘what ifs’.
When Felix was finally brought before Alistair, he was very quick to agree to help the young man. It turned out that Alistair was the newly appointed alpha of a large and well equipped werewolf pack. His options were very simple; help them or die. Felix enjoyed life, even if he spent most of his on the street. So he was more than happy to provide his services in exchange for his life.
Felix did not feel like a captive, which surprised even him. Alistair sent Felix out onto the field against the vampires and let him fully make use of his powers. He did not have to hide or be careful of who saw him with the Teith pack. Instead, he was encouraged to use his magic. Felix had always had to be careful in front of humans, in case they saw something they shouldn’t have. The supernatural world was more forgiving in that regard.
There really was nothing quite like seeing his enemies falling to the ground, trapped in their own head by Felix’s manifestations. Felix and the wolves began killing the vampires in droves, and maiming many others. However, when old vampires returned to the field, it became apparent that the vampires had something of their own.
The fighting kept on escalating before the vampires suddenly just vanished. If Felix were an optimist, he may have thought that the vampires had given up and left LA, but Felix knew that Spencer would not concede so easily. Alistair was of the same mind. The vampires were up to something. Alistair sent teams out searching, but there was no sign of Spencer and his clan.
There were no leads for months, but Felix was kept busy, creating wards around prison facilities that Alistair acquired. When September rolled around though, Alistair received news about reproductive vampires in Colorado. Felix had learned with Ryland that witches created vampires, then werewolves to rid the world of their first mistake. The vampires were immortal but were living dead; the dead were not meant to be able to create life. Felix began to wonder if magic was involved.
Alistair kept his agents in the small town to dig up more information about it all, while Felix did some research about the phenomenon. As it turned out, fertility was possible; a loophole in the original spell that had created vampires. However, it was incredibly rare. Felix then learned about the legend of hybrids. There was enough mentions of hybrids that lead Felix to believe that they could be real, but then there was very little substance or evidence to the claims.
That all changed when Alistair was told there was a hybrid spotted in Mactire Falls. Other than being incredibly fast and strong, hybrid blood was rumoured to be able to heal a vampire from a werewolf bite. Suddenly, things made sense. Spencer’s fighters were coming back from lethal attacks to fight another day. Spencer had a hybrid.
Alistair decided it was about time he got one too. Felix was given a new job; discover all there is to know about hybrids. He was given an entire science team to use at his disposal, as well as unrestricted funds to ensure that there was nothing to hold him back. Felix had always liked the idea of mixing science with magic. When things weren’t possible scientifically, magic was available. He would find a way to ensure that they could produce their own hybrids.
