- VAMPIRES -
~
Despite popular belief, vampires have been roaming this Earth for centuries. They have retractable canine teeth -fangs- which allows them to go undetected in the human world. Over the years, they have learnt to fit in with everyday society. While vampires cannot normally walk in the sunlight, they can avoid the sun's deathly curse by wearing a sort of amulet or tattoo. Only a witch can craft such an item, therefore many vampires are still banished to the shadows of the night. That is not to say that witches will not make sun resistant amulets for vampires.
Vampires are lethal predators who prefer to feed on human blood. While animal blood can sustain them, it is known that vampires are substantially slower and weaker when living off of animals. Thus, vampires tend to rely on human blood to keep up their strength. Because of this, vampires are constructed to be irresistibly attractive to humans. Everything about them -from their enchanting looks, to the sound of their voice or even just their smell- is designed to lure humans to their deaths. This is commonly known as a vampire’s ‘allure’. Other species can feel the effects of a vampire’s allure, even though it is designed for humans. A vampire cannot ‘turn it off’ so to speak, but they can embrace it, which allows them to pander to their prey’s desires. While each mortal’s miles may vary, in most cases, mortals will grow used to an individual vampire’s allure, the more time they spend with that vampire. The allure is designed to attract prey in the moment, not to keep them entranced for years on end. Again, this does depend on the mortal person in question.
Another natural ability of a vampire is compulsion- the act of hypnotising a victim. When under compulsion a human, witch, or traditional werewolf can be told to act a certain way, to forget certain things, or to accept a wide variety of truths. The only thing that can break a long-term compulsion is if the human is compelled to remember, or if that person is turned into a vampire themselves.
The more a vampire practices his/her compulsion, the better the ability becomes and the more likely it will work. In instances where it doesn’t work, it could be because the vampire isn’t practiced enough for a certain victim, or the victim could have a magical talisman to ward off the hypnosis. In the supernatural world, it is considered the height of rudeness and is seen as extremely taboo to use compulsion on traditional werewolves and witches- it is also more difficult. While a vampire could compel a traditional werewolf or a witch (if the vampire is very good at compulsion,) if the vampire in question is caught, it could spell big trouble in both the social and judicial sense.
When bitten by a vampire, the victim does not feel pain. Instead, they feel a sense of euphoria and calmness as the vampire venom numbs the affected area. It has been known for some humans to become addicted to the sensation, thereby willingly offering themselves up as a thrall. Many call mortals who willingly allow vampires to feed on them ‘fangers’ and use the term in a derogatory way.
It is also worth noting that vampires are in fact, immortal. Once turned, a vampire will never age and therefore, will never naturally progress towards death like us mere mortals. They can however be killed, which I will cover in more detail later in this entry. While this fact is rather frightening, the silver-lining is that vampire blood holds healing properties. I have even heard of vampires using their own blood to heal their victims after feeding, to erase bite marks. Obtaining vampire blood is a risky affair in itself, but none the less, hunters should proceed with caution. While vampire blood will heal most known injuries, if a human dies with vampire blood in the system, then they will inevitably turn.
In order to complete the transition from human to vampire, the newly re-born vampire must feed on human blood. Not doing so, will lead to the fledgling's ultimate death, but not before sending the beast into a ravenous frenzy. The curse within will not easily just allow its host to starve itself to death. Once turned, a vampire's power will increase as the years pass, meaning that the older a vampire is, the stronger and more deadly it will be.
Despite all odds, vampires can reproduce, though it is extremely rare. Some believe that not all vampires are re-born with the ability to procreate, but this is not proven. All that is known for sure, is that vampires have managed to reproduce. Due to the fact that it is incredibly rare for a vampire to breed, the species regards fertility very highly. There have even been rumours of vampires siring hybrid babies who are part vampire and part werewolf, but the theory is not believed by many. It is said that conceiving a hybrid is the rarest birth of all. It is also rumoured, that the blood of a hybrid can cure a vampire of a werewolf bite.
A born vampire will age much like a normal human, but requires blood to survive. Once the born vampire has reached mental and physical maturity, it will stop aging and stay frozen at that age, usually somewhere between 21 to 26 years of age for most vampires.
Furthermore, it is no secret that werewolves and vampires are natural enemies. While alliances have been known to be formed between the two species, quite often, the factions do not get along. Legend has it that werewolves were created to destroy vampires, hence why their werewolf venom is fatal to vampires. A bitten vampire will rapidly deteriorate over the next 24-36 hours after being bitten. The bite will fester and resist regeneration, but as the venom spreads through the vampire’s body, they will suffer an insatiable thirst, which makes them incredibly dangerous. Moreover, a bitten vampire will collapse into psychosis as the venom takes effect. They will be incredibly unstable and unaware of what is and isn’t the real world. Finally, the afflicted vampire will slowly pass away as the venom infiltrates the entire body and system.
Strengths
- Vampires are incredibly fast and strong; their power increases with age
- Vampires are immortal
- A vampire is extremely attractive and uses its attributes to hunt humans
- Vampires have heightened senses, beyond human comprehension
- If a vampire is injured, their bodies repair themselves quickly, making them very difficult to kill
Weaknesses
- Unless they have a daylight ring or tattoo, a vampire will burn to death in sunlight. Not many vampires last more than 20-30 minutes
- Dead Man's blood will poison a vampire momentarily, severely weakening them -even to the point of losing consciousness. The blood will not kill a vampire though, but makes for an effective tranquilizer
- Werewolf venom is deadly only to vampires. It is rumoured though, that the blood of a hybrid can cure a werewolf bite.
Methods to kill a vampire:
- 20-30 minutes in constant sunlight. The more body exposed, the quicker the death
- Werewolf bite/venom
- Wooden stake or bullet to the heart
- Beheading
- A vampire can be set on fire and burn to death
- Remove their heart
